Past, present and future EGR award winners of the best Bingo marketing campaign

June 2021 saw the event that the online gaming industry had been waiting for — the eGaming Review (EGR) Marketing & Innovation Awards. Although this year’s ceremony took place virtually, guests and nominees still put on their finest glad rags to see who would come out on top, and most notably, who would win the award for the ‘Most Innovative Bingo Marketing Campaign’.

The Awards recognise the stand-out creativity and innovation in online gambling through their different marketing efforts, and for the online Bingo sector, the winner had to fit the criteria of an original and creative campaign, that delivered direct results in acquisition and revenue, as well as enhancing the brand’s values.

With this in mind, let’s take a look back at the winners who have achieved all this and bagged themselves an EGR Award – as well as who could be in the spotlight in the future.

2020: Mecca Bingo

The year 2020 also saw a virtual award ceremony take place, and, as always, celebrated the innovation from the various gaming and gambling operators that had occurred throughout the year. This year’s Awards were presented by the charismatic, technology presenter, and reporter, Ortis Deley, and the winner for the ‘Bingo Marketing Campaign’ category this time round was Mecca Bingo.

Founded in 1961, the UK based company won the award for a “comprehensive collection of campaigns”, as noted by the judges. The company referred to their efforts as the ‘Mecca Dream Come True’ campaign. The feedback from the 2020 judges also included the following:

“[It had] an impressive roster of celebs and good results… Clever campaigns which mixed the online experience [and done a] great job at capturing the spirit of Bingo players and targeting their audience with offers that they really want.”

In the same year, Mecca Bingo also won the award for ‘Innovation in Mobile and Tablet’ for their Mecca Bingo App.

2021: PlayOJO

Most recently, gaming operators and affiliates were celebrated and award in another EGR Virtual Awards for this year. The night was hosted by up-and-coming, award-winning comedian Matt Richardson.

The award for ‘Bingo Marketing Campaign’ went to PlayOJO, who were commended by the judges for their “creative and media-worthy PR campaign”. The feedback noted:

“[It was a] textbook example of a challenger brand in action. Identify your target audience, take the time to understand who they are and what floats their boat, and then create a campaign that presses every single one of their buttons.”

Coining themselves ‘the fair casino’, PlayOJO are not unfamiliar with winning at the EGR Awards, as they previously took home the award for ‘Rising Star of the Year’ at the prestigious ceremony in 2017. It was their first win at the EGR Awards, but as they have proven this year, it wasn’t the last.

Future: Paddy Power Bingo

Despite not winning this year’s award in the online Bingo sector, Paddy Power Bingo are certainly one to watch for the future. A top contender amongst the nominees, their Bingo marketing campaign featured an entertaining and delightful mix of drag queens, Bingo balls and a MINI Cooper.

Not only were players encouraged to engage in the Bingo site, there was also the chance to win a MINI Cooper car themselves, if they correctly guessed, or counted, the amount of Bingo balls it took to fill the car. Fulfilling the brief for originality and creativity, this Irish gaming giant could well be a future winner in the EGR Awards.
