How to Repair Microsoft Outlook 365 Data Files

Outlook provides some great features to make your emailing experience easier and faster. However, many users come across a variety of issues while using Outlook 365. One of these issues is Outlook not being able to access your personal data file.

The exact error message should look something like the following:

0x8004010F: Outlook data file cannot be accessed

If you’re getting an “Outlook data file cannot be accessed error, this might mean that your data file is bad and needs repairing. This can be done in a few ways and here are some solutions:

1: Change the Mail Delivery Location

2: Use the free version of Recovery Toolbox for Outlook: https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/outlook-data-file-cannot-be-accessed.html

3: Use the online file recovery service: https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/online/

I will now expatiate on these solutions:

Solution 1: Change the Mail Delivery Location

This solution works by adding a new data file and setting Outlook to use it to store your emails. Doing this will create a fresh new data file for Outlook and may also solve the “Outlook data file cannot be opened” error.

Here are the steps to doing this:

  1. Find Outlook on your PC and launch it.

  1. Click the File tab at the top of your screen.

  1. Select Info from the options in the left sidebar. Then click Account Settings on the right-hand side panel and select Account Settings

  1. By default, you’ll be in the Email tab. Switch to the Data Files tab and click the Add button to add a new data file.

  1. Outlook will ask where you’d like to save the file. Choose a location, enter a name for the file, and click OKto save the file.

Outlook will still use your old data file to save your messages. Change that by setting your new data file as the default data file. Select your newly created file in the list and click Set as Default at the top.

Solution 2: Use the free version of Recovery Toolbox for Outlook

One advantage of using this program is that it allows you to assess whether recovery is possible in this case. If it is possible, the program recreates the structure of a mailbox and allows you to view letters and other objects with the ability to save up to 5 objects in each folder. This method not only works but is also time-saving. It software solves your problem in just a few clicks.

You have just to upload your corrupted file to the tool or to the online service (they work with the same principles) and wait. And. Magic!

Below are the steps to using the offline version:

  1. Download, install and start Recovery Toolbox for Outlookfrom the site: https://outlook.recoverytoolbox.com/
  2. Choose a corrupt .PST file in the first window

  1. Choose Recovery Mode.
  2. Choose a folder to save a recovered file.
  3. Replace the corrupt PST file with a recovered one.
  4. Done!

If you have 2019, 2016, 2013 versions of Outlook, you should follow these steps:

  1. Choose the menu item File | Info.
  2. Click the button Account Settings.

  1. Choose Account Settings in the popup menu.
  2. Choose the Data Files
  3. Choose a data file from the list below.
  4. Click the following button Open File Location.

Solution 3: Use the online file recovery service

If you do not intend to install the program or pay the $50 license fee, you can make use of the online email recovery service of Recovery Toolbox which costs only $10 and allows you access to 1 GB of information.

It works from any device, not necessarily a PC. You can upload the files from your tablet or cellphone, ensure you are connected to a good internet provider and have your damaged files fixed.

Here is how the online service works:

  1. Press the Select file button and select an Outlook data file with the extension .pst or .ost
  2. Enter your email address
  3. Enter the captcha code
  4. Press the Continue button
  5. Wait for the corrupted .pst/.ost Microsoft Outlook file to be recovered

The data recovered from the corrupted Microsoft Outlook data file will be saved by the service as a new Microsoft Outlook 2016 file with the PST extension in Unicode format.

You can now recover .pst Microsoft Outlook Personal Folder files on any device with a browser.
